I go with friend to sketch a random spot every other weekend. This time our group chose a temple nearby area. Since it was crowded little bit, me and my friend went to sit on a pavement to sketch. On that pavement there were a few road side shops. Two women were sitting there in their shops and chitchatting.
There were few kids sat with me to see how I draw. That is when that lady speaking with me asking random questions. I was sketching and speaking with her. All of a sudden, she asked me a most racist question. “Ammadi... neenga yenna aalunga?” (what is your caste?). I simply replied I don’t know. My parents didn’t tell me. She kept bugging me with the same question. I told her I don’t know again and again. And politely included we don’t ask these kinda questions. That is considered rude. Again, she added “your parents would have mentioned in the school certificate. Haven’t you ever seen that?”. This is when I totally lost it.
How could I let her know this is totally wrong question to ask somebody we don’t know. I chose to be rude and not talk and entertain her with it. I did that and finished sketching and came back. But the question never left my mind.
Do people still ask these kinda disgusting questions to other people?
“அம்மாடி… நாங்க மனுசங்க… நீங்க..?”
அப்படின்னு பதில் சொல்லலாமே…?
